A blank CD-R is a Disc that was manufactured with the intent
that the end user will record it using a Desktop PC with a CD-R recorder and a
software that allows the user to select the items that will go on to the CD-R.
The Next step is print on the face of the CD. The Printing
process can be one of the following:
-
Paper Label that is printed on an ink jet printer and
then manually applied to the CD-R
-
Paper Label that is printed on a Color laser printer and
then manually applied to the CD-R
-
Black Thermal Transfer printing directly on the face of
the CD-R. This a very reliable printing process but is has the limitations
of the number of colors and the cost of the equipment for the end user.
Typically this is done by companies like edocpublish.com. Cost for Printing is very low
-
Color Thermal
Re-Transfer printing directly to the face of the CD-R. This a very high
resolution and reliability printing process but is has the limitations of
the number of colors and the cost of the equipment for the end user.

Silk Screening is a simple concept but a complex one to
implement reliably. If you have never done Silk screening before you are in
for a surprise.
First: Not all of the dots will be printed, you lose 10-15% of the dots due
to the silk screening process. The image will look lighter specially if the
background is silver not white.
Second: Always use white background when using CYMK printing, unless the
artwork must show Silver
Third: The Silk screening Pattern will show in the Image on the Disc.
-
Offset Print, the Best printing for Media, except it cost too much money for setup and it requires special CD-R.
